Testimonials from Energy Co-op Members
We had the pleasure of being served today by Steve, who delivered our pellets. He called prior to arriving and was extremely polite and accommodating. When he arrived he was absolutely tops in customer service--such a nice man and extremely skilled. What a treat it was to deal with Steve -- the experience made our day! You have a gold star employee there and we hope you have a way to recognize that. Thank you.
–Thomas and Theresa L., Montpelier, VT
You pay a little more for them, but they're the best pellet on the market." (Vermont Wood Pellets)
–Thomas P., Milton
While I was away today my pellets were delivered and Steve did an awesome job. Pellets right where I wanted, nicely placed next to each other. It's much appreciated!
–John McC., Hinesburg, VT
Thank you so much for having the pallets placed in the garage. Re-stacking two tons of pellets has always been a winter chore I dreaded - what a relief to have them right where I want them!! And the driver even got rid of our old pallets for us. Really appreciate the service!
–Mark B., Barre, VT.
Just wanted to let you know that our pellet stove install went well. We were very impressed by how professional your installers were. They were courteous, explained and demonstrated how the stove worked, and cleaned up after themselves. We will definitely recommend you to others as well as calling you up first for any other heating needs we have. Thanks so much!

#1. 1st bag to burn - Vermont Wood Pellets - Right now these are my VERY top pick for all you Softwood Pellet heads. Hands down we are talking high heat and the lowest ash I have seen in a long time. Great Job VT!
Folks, I am into my 6th heating season using wood pellets, but this is my 1st year using your pellets. I am extremely happy with your product for the following reasons:
1. Way more heat output
2. Ash content is half of what I am used to
3. No sawdust in your bags
4. Window film build-up is less and wipes off with a damp cloth. In the past I had to use an abrasive cleaner to remove film.
What ever your manufacturing process is, do not change it. You have the other pellet manufacturers beat by a mile.
–A Happy Customer, Conrad R., Westford, VT
I’m all about supporting the locals: the loggers, their truckers and the people at the new mill. Vermont Wood Pellets wood is grown here and it’s burnt here. Puts out far more heat than everything I’ve ever tried.
–Roy, Rutland, VT
I have used several different brands of pellets and the Vermont Pellet Company’s are by far the best I have used. They produce the least ash and appear to burn as hot or hotter than any other pellet I have used. They are the only pellet I will purchase to use in my stove!
–Rod H., Essex, VT
I thought the Vermont pellets were great. They are the best out of four different varieties I’ve tried over the last two years. The bags are sturdy and well-sealed, there are almost no fines, the pellets were solid and produced no clinkers.
–Phil P., Hinesburg, VT
Super low ash, very good heat output, hardly any fines or dust.
–John B., Jericho, VT
The Vermont Wood Pellets burned very nicely, very little ash.
–Paul S., Burlington, VT
Best stuff I've ever burned. Really clean. Appear to have a harder finish than other pellets so they feed better. More heat than from other pellets.
–David O., South Hero, VT
These are very clean burning, low ash pellets. Definitely reduce stove maintenance. They really are a super premium pellet.
–Bob G., Barre, VT
I've learned the hard way that there are a lot of poor quality pellets on the market that make the job of maintaining your stove a real pain. I've switched to pellets made by Vermont Wood Pellet Company. I’m happy with high BTU….low dust and they’re priced right. I’ll never use any other pellet in my stove again!
–Steve F., Rutland, VT
We are lucky to have the first pellet mill in the state locate in North Clarendon. They are best pellets I have ever used: less ash… better heat… less cleaning time.
–Mike K., Clarendon, VT
By far, the best softwood pellet I have ever burned are these Vermont Wood Pellets. Actually, if you read my website’s home page, I have always been a fan of the west coast softwoods like Okanagan or Blazer and have made comments that mills over here or Eastern Canada are just simply not capable of producing a decent (clean, hot and long burning softwood pellet. You and yours have proved me wrong. Great job and outstanding pellet!
We are very pleased with our heat pump and heat pump water heater. Joe and the rest of the staff at the Energy Co-op of Vermont were very professional. They were honest about what their products would do, and about our options. (For example, we may wish to add a second heat pump in the future because of how our house is laid out. Despite that, we rarely use our oil furnace now.) We are enjoying big savings and much lower fossil fuel use, since we have solar PV. I have recommended the Energy Co-op of Vermont to others.
–Sue D., Colchester, VT
We've been Co-op members since 2012. In 2005 after using 1,823 gallon of heating oil and five cords of wood for heat and hot water we set out on a long-term effort to bring our energy use under control. Since 2005 we've added insulation in the attic, basement and walls, sealed air leaks, installed a solar hot water system, switched from cord wood to pellets, added foam insulation in the basement, hosted four solar trackers from AllEarth Renewables and purchased two cold-climate heat pumps and a heat pump water heater from the Energy Co-op. This winter, we used less than 30 gallons of fuel oil. If you add the savings from car pooling and the incremental cost of purchasing a more efficient vehicle and assume a long-term average of $2.50 a gallon for heating oil and gasoline, we are saving $8,000 a year in energy bills. That’s a 20% tax-free return on our investment.
–Chuck L., and Gaye S., Jericho, VT
My wife and I are committed to reducing our fossil energy footprint, and have been heating our home with wood, trying to use our old oil burner only as backup. Unfortunately, this leaves some cold corners in the house, including our kid's room. We started researching some options, and quickly noticed the Energy Coop's heat pump advertisements. We hesitated for some time, but last fall we went ahead and had one installed. The installation itself was fast with limited disruption, and the heat pump has surpassed our expectations. Even at very low temperatures, it is still able to put out heat, which keeps the boy's room at a comfortable temperature. I especially like that I can program the unit to shut off and turn on to fit our schedule. We're looking forward to having a cool space on the hottest days of summer as well. Great technology!
–Todd C. and Maeve McB., South Burlington, VT
Last September, the Energy Co-op installed two heat pumps for us – one to heat and cool our downstairs living space, one to heat our hot water. We are very, very happy with both units and highly recommend them. Our oil use has gone down by about 450 gallons a year, which gives us an excellent return on our investment.
–Rocky Cleborne, South Hero, VT
We had been using almost 1,000 gallons of propane a year and our home has an open floor plan, making it well-suited for a heat pump. Our heat pump was installed in one day last April. We enjoyed the cooling option during some of those extra hot days last summer and now the results are in from this winter. We've used 300 less gallons of propane from October 1st to April 1st. Even at only $2.00 per gallon, that's a $600 savings.
–Suzie Quinn, South Hero, VT (Marketing Coordinator, Energy Co-op of Vermont)
Our heat pump water heater was installed by Joe and Richie last October. It has worked flawlessly ever since. We run it in “efficiency” mode all the time, and switch to “vacation” when we’re away. It’s very quiet and hasn’t made our basement any colder that we’ve noticed. And it will be nice to have a less humid basement this summer.
–John Quinney, Charlotte, VT (General Manager, Energy Co-op of Vermont)
Joe and team, thanks for a great installation of our new cold climate heat pump. I was pleased with you arriving promptly for our initial site assessment, suggestions and recommendations on placement of the indoor and outside units and estimate. Your crew showed up on the appointed day and did a very professional job installing the unit. Thanks for a great job!
–Richard F., Starksboro, VT
“Hi Joe. My thanks to the Energy Co-op, and especially you, for a trouble-free installation and the patience on your part for the delay. It will be easy to recommend you.”
–Fiona M., Underhill, Vermont
I recently had a great experience with Joe, your service manager, and Rick, your subcontractor. They were very thoughtful, helpful and explained all of my heating system options. The Energy Co-op had been referred to me by my neighbor, who is a long time customer. I had a flood in June which wiped out my system, but my old farmhouse is pretty unique and I really needed a good consultation. Thanks for having such great employees. I have already been singing your praises.
–Meg H., Richmond, VT
I’m sitting in the annual meeting for the energy co-op. They've been supplying us with oil for years and great service. They will install a heat pump for us this December once the credit is available. I would highly recommend them!
–Maeve M., South Burlington, VT
I would agree with Dan's recommendation of the Energy Co-op of Vermont. I have been using them for years and have never been disappointed.
–Tom C., Underhill, VT
The Energy Co-op of Vermont is always a good option for fuel oil. Check out the SMART CHOICE plan. You can lock in your price (currently $3.59) and if it goes lower, you get the lower price.
–Daniel S., Underhill, VT
The Heat Pump is working good, remote controller set to 74 degrees, house indoors temp reads 75 degrees, outside temp 92 degrees. What's nice is this unit knows when to cool or heat the house automatically. Tell Nick thanks for setting up the unit on that hot muggy day and answering all my annoying questions.
–Don R., Jeffersonville, VT
Every time I call the Energy Co-op, I’m greeted by a friendly staff member who really takes their time explaining things to me. I never feel like they’re in a rush – talking to me is what’s most important to them. And I always end up learning something about my energy consumption. They definitely want to help me improve it, and I’m grateful for that.
–Carrie A., Montpelier, VT
Just had to reach out and say "Thanks" again to everybody at your shop. The bottom line is, my family had a warm and safe weekend thanks to everybody that went the extra bit to fix our furnace. That kind of appreciation really cant be shared all the time now that so many folks are always used to complaining and wanting it at the last minute. Anyway, best to all of you and I know I'll need a tune-up now that the new box and transfomer are on-line. Call when you can to schedule after your needs slow down and I know I'll be telling the folks about your great crew in the meantime.
–Walter, Grand Isle, VT
Thank you so much for all of the wonderful work and guidance you gave us when it came to deciding what our best option for heat should be in our new (to us) house. Last winter, we survived on a wood stove and two older model kerosene heaters. After looking at all of our options, we decided to ask Wayne to install a new gas furnace and to retrofit our 1960's ranch with ductwork. It turned out better than I thought possible. Wayne and his team were top-notch professionals and thought of everything that we would need for this project. They were on time and on budget. We are now looking forward to a comfortable winter in our new house. Your team made this possible. With much appreciation.
–The Kono Family, Shelburne, VT.
For years our old boiler was noisy and it was turning off and on far too often. I think it might have been held together by duct tape, at least it looked that way. We just had the Vermont Energy Co-op (Richie and Joe) install a Buderus boiler and we are thankful we finally did replace the old boiler. The installation process was very smooth and the new boiler is much more energy efficient, quieter and, as one expect, it doesn't leak water like our old one.
–Herb and Barbara K., Shelburne, VT.
I just want to compliment your service man. He did an outstanding job. He was especially concerned over parts in the boiler and to check it out to his satisfaction. He was also very clean. As I told him, in years past, I have always had a bad odor of oil in the house when other service people left. He left and there is very little odor. Just thought you should know, he is a good representative of Energy Co-op of VT. A pleasure to have you as my oil and service company.
–Paul Y., Underhill Center, VT
I would like to thank you for assisting me in getting a grant from the State of Vermont for a new tank, slab and roof ..... Your furnace man told me my tank would need to be replaced, and told me about this grant for low-income households ..... Your staff helped me out a lot and I would like to thank each and every one of you. This is a big expense, and with your help I was able to get it done with little cost to me. Thank you all again.
–Daria K., Milton, VT
We joined the Energy Co-op of Vermont and have been really happy with them. Cheaper than many of the other local operations plus some cool member perks.
–Morgen L., Jericho VT
Your service technician Richie most likely saved me from making a mistake and I appreciate it. Just so you know, everyone did an excellent job, and the overall result looks great. Thanks to you and to them for an excellent overall experience.
–Tony M., Essex, VT
I joined the Energy Co-op today. I was so impressed with how quickly you got to me, how detailed you were and how well you spoke of the Co-op. You do not find this kind of thing very often. I thank you.
–Britt V., Essex Junction, VT
I'd never use any company other than Energy Co-Op of Vermont. They are helpful and fair. You can choose a budget plan, which allows your payments to be spread out over the year (and thus enjoy a price cap, and a DROP in your payments should the price go down during the year). They also have a pre-buy and other programs. I've been with them for a few years now.
–Laurie F., Jericho, VT
Prior to our association with Energy Co-op of Vermont we dealt with one of the larger fuel dealers in the area. We were completely at their mercy and they were the source of several unpleasant surprises. We find dealing with the Energy Co-op to be a refreshing change of philosophies. Your purchasing strategies make your products available at a reasonable price in today's market. Your service personnel are friendly informed individuals that communicate with the customer and make suggestions and offer possible solutions to any abnormalities that they encounter. My only problem with the Energy Co-op of Vermont is that they don't sell propane!
Thanks for the great personalized service.
–Lloyd C., Jeffersonville
We recently had a new Weil Mclain boiler and Amtrol hot water tank installed. Joe and Richie did a great job. They had some tricky maneuvering to do to get the equipment in our basement and took every precaution to make sure nothing got damaged. Very professional, very neat and a nice finished product. They also took the time to educate us on all the bells and whistles. Nice work guys.
–Jeffrey O, Colchester VT
My new Weil McLain looks great. Richie and Joe arrived on time, answered all my questions and were very professional.
–Gary B., Milton
The furnace is completely installed and checked out already ! ! !
Rick and Joe were fast, efficient, effective, cooperative and friendly.
In other words all the things that help cement good customer relations and maintain the high character and reputation of Energy Co-Op of Vermont.
–Kip C., Milton, VT
My experience working with Vt. Energy Co-op this fall was exceptional. Paul was extremely professional and informative. After the energy audit we worked together to prioritize a plan. He coordinated the work being done, checked in regularly about my satisfaction and helped me with the paperwork so I could qualify for the maximum energy rebate. My house feels so much tighter and I'm definitely using less fuel. Also loving my new budget plan. Thank you.
–Susan T., Shelburne, Vermont
I want to thank you for the great service I received from you and those who installed my new furnace.
First, the proposal you presented was very clear and specific – there was no doubt concerning what would be done and the final cost. While your proposal was not the lowest price I received, I was certain there would be no surprises at the end.
Second, I was apprehensive about delay, noise, dirt, etc., but there was practically no sound, and the cellar was left in a very clean condition. The installers were very professional, answered all my questions, did the job quickly and quietly and were finished in one day.
Thanks for making a big job such a good experience.
–Joanne P., Milton
Finally getting round to thanking you and Rich for helping us out at the house. Everything works great so far. I truly appreciate your wonderful service.
Have a fantastic 2011
–Bob S., Underhill
Your service technician did a fantastic job. He tore my furnace down completely and did a very thorough job. He was very knowledgeable.
–Dick M., Colchester
I just have to send HUGE thanks and appreciation to Richie and Joe for the great pellet stove installation this morning. It was touch and go before they got here because we didn't know if we had all the components and no-one knew this type of stove. But they'd brought exactly what was needed, figured out how the components would work in this space, got the stove started, stayed to make sure it worked OK and gave helpful guidance and pointers. I'm happy and grateful (and warm ....). Thanks again.
–Diane R., Huntington
My husband and I think the Energy Co-op of Vermont is wonderful. We feel great about working with local people who are friendly, knowledgeable and effective. The Co-op seems to have our best interest in mind in terms of heating our home effectively and affordably and we are super appreciative of that. We would recommend working with them to everyone. Thanks for all you do!
–Jenna H., Essex Junction
I would like to thank you and commend you for patiently wading through my 'demanding' furnace installation. It was not a straight forward install due to our unconventional basement. You did an excellent job and went out of your way to assist with questions that arose, handling unexpected changes/difficulties, such as the scheduling issues that arose. I now have confidence in the Co-op Service Department. I am also grateful to Joe Cobb for pointing out the issues with our old furnace, honestly assessing the condition of it and our tank as well as its venting setup which is now in compliance with state regulations.
I am also extremely impressed with your sub-contractor, Rich Bidwell, who handled the installation after the scheduling change which prevented you and Rich and Joe from coming. I can honestly say that I have never encountered the kind of knowledge Rich has regarding furnaces and I thoroughly enjoyed him as a person as well. He was absolutely fantastic.
I am hoping for many trouble free years from this Olsen, but am happy that you are there if any problems do arise as I know you will handle them with as much care and finesse as you did this initial install.
–Nadia G., Colchester
