Green Up Day in Chittenden County – Saturday May 1

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Green Up Day is one of those wonderful Vermont traditions, now 40 years old! The first Green Up Day was April 18, 1970. Go to www.greenupvermont.org – and you’ll find a picture of Governor Deane Davis with a troop of scouts on the interstate while it was closed for clean up.

Green Up Day has a big impact. Over the past ten years, thousands of Green Up Day volunteers in Chittenden County have picked up 400 tons of trash, 18,000 tires and 400 tons of metal.

So mark your calendars, start talking to your family, friends and neighbors and lets have a large turn out for the 40th anniversary of Green Up Day. Contact your town coordinator on the list below for more information.

Spring Fuel Deliveries

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Now that spring is here, many of our members and customers are using much less oil or kerosene for heating their homes and hot water. Some folks turn their furnaces off as soon as they possibly can; others keep them running well into May.

For our members and customers on an automatic delivery schedule, our job is to make sure that no-one runs out of oil or kerosene and that we don’t make unwanted deliveries. After all, most people don’t want a spring bill for oil they won’t be using for at least six months.

Here’s how we handle spring deliveries:

The fuel assistance season ends on April 30th. So, for our fuel assistance clients who have money in their accounts, we deliver as near to the end of April as possible, provided the deliveries are at least 100 gallons.

For our pre-buy members and customers with funds available, we’ll deliver as normal, especially since our pre-buy price ($2.49) is well below current prices.

If you use oil or kerosene to heat your home (but NOT your hot water), we won’t make any deliveries after late April, unless we speak with you to get your OK.

If you use oil or kerosene to heat your home AND provide your hot water, we’ll deliver on our regular schedule through the end of June.

If you have an outside tank, it is better to fill your tank in the spring to prevent condensation that would otherwise occur during the summer. So, we’re happy to fill outside tanks in the spring upon request.

Vermont Home and Garden Show

Monday, April 12th, 2010

The Vermont Home and Garden show is coming up April 16th – 18th and we’ll be there with information about Vermont wood pellets, special offers for our furnaces and boilers, and great prizes in our raffle. Show hours are noon – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, 10:00 – 8:00 on Saturday and 10:00 – 5:00 on Sunday.

We’re offering free bags of Vermont wood pellets – one per household – so that folks with pellet stoves can try these pellets at no risk. All we ask in return is your name, address, phone number and email address.

We’ll be showing our Olsen energy-efficient hot air furnace. We’re offering $250 off the price of this furnace for installations completed by June 30th – and Green Mountain Power customers receive and additional $500 rebate on this unit.

We’ll also have our new Napoleon pellet stove on display. This stove was highly rated by Consumer Reports and qualifies for the federal tax credit of up to $1,500!

See you at the show.
