Say Goodbye to Big Winter Oil Bills with our Easy Pay Plans

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

No-one wants to get hit with big oil bills during the winter, especially around the holidays. That’s why we created our Easy Pay plans for Energy Co-op members.

Here’s how they work. We take your estimated oil use through June next year and spread your payments out over eight months, starting in November and ending in June. Many of our members find this an easier and more convenient way to pay for their oil or kerosene. You don’t get a big bill after each delivery; you simply pay the same amount each month.

We’ll send you a statement each month showing payments made, your fuel deliveries and interest earned. That’s right, interest – earned at the rate of 3% a year for each month when you have a credit balance.

To make things even easier, we can charge your monthly payments to your credit or debit card automatically. You don’t need to do a thing.

Our sign up deadline for our Easy Pay plans is November 26, 2010. So don’t delay, call us at 860-4090 today or go to visit our website for more information about our Vermont Home Heating Oil Budget Plans.

David Blittersdorf to Address Annual Meeting on Vermont’s Energy Future

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

At our 9th Annual Meeting on September 21, AllEarth Renewables President and CEO David Blittersdorf will bring his three decades of experience in the renewable-energy business to bear on an analysis of Vermont’s energy outlook. Electric rates are expected to double or triple within the next 10 to 15 years. Fossil fuels and nuclear power are neither clean nor cheap; more than 90% of Vermont’s total energy is imported at a cost of four billion dollars per year. David calls for collective action to develop a locally based energy economy through conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy – and underscores the need for a regulatory environment that supports these initiatives.

David Blittersdorf founded NRG Systems in 1982, when the wind industry was in its infancy, and grew the company into an internationally recognized leader in wind measurement technology. Believing that he could do more to help transition the U.S. energy economy away from fossil fuels, David stepped down as CEO of NRG Systems in 2004 in order to found another company: He is now president and CEO of AllEarth Renewables (formerly Earth Turbines), a business focused on the design and manufacture of practical and affordable renewable-energy options for grid-connected homes and businesses. Products include the AllSun Tracker, an active-tracking, pole-mounted solar PV array, and a residential-scale wind turbine that is currently in development. Since 2009, AllEarth Renewables has installed more than 190 AllSun Trackers in the state of Vermont.

Price Protection and Budget Plans Coming out Early July

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Each year we offer price protection and budget plans for our members.

Our price protection plans offer fixed or capped prices for heating oil for the twelve months starting July 1, 2010.  More than 1,100 Co-op members signed up for these plans last year.

We also offer budget plans for heating oil and kerosene.  For heating oil, our Smart Choice budget plan combines the convenience of regular monthly payments with the security of a capped price.  For kerosene, we offer a budget plan without price protection.

This year we’ll be introducing two new plans.

We’ll be offering a budget plan with a variable price for members who use heating oil, want the convenience of monthly payments but don’t want to pay for price protection.

We’ll also be offering a budget plan for Co-op members who use wood pellets.  Instead of getting a big bill when we deliver the pellets, members will be able to spread their payments over twelve months.

All this information and more goes in the mail in the week of July 5th.

Holiday Hours

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Fewer Service Calls with Low Sulfur Heating Oil

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

The Energy Co-op has been delivering heating oil and kerosene to our members and customers since September 2000. When we started out, much of the heating oil we delivered was supplied by Exxon-Mobil and, as required under Vermont regulations, contained no more than 2,000 parts per million sulfur. Nowadays, about 95% of the heating oil we deliver is supplied by Valero Energy Corporation and it contains no more than 500 parts per million sulfur. In fact much of this oil is even cleaner – less than 15 parts per million sulfur!

This is about more than just the numbers. Low sulfur heating oil produces lower emissions and also burns cleaner than high sulfur product according to research studies from the Brookhaven National Laboratory and field trials conducted by oil dealers in New York and Virginia.

We’re seeing the same thing. Our service technicians tune-up dozens of our members’ heating systems starting each spring. They’re noting less soot and fuel deposits in our members’ furnaces and boilers. Over the past couple of years, we’re also getting fewer “no heat” service calls. Both these observations are linked to low- and ultra-low sulfur heating oil.

Low sulfur heating oil is no more expensive than the high sulfur product. It is a good environmental choice, and fewer service calls means more savings for our members.

Green Up Day in Chittenden County – Saturday May 1

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Green Up Day is one of those wonderful Vermont traditions, now 40 years old! The first Green Up Day was April 18, 1970. Go to www.greenupvermont.org – and you’ll find a picture of Governor Deane Davis with a troop of scouts on the interstate while it was closed for clean up.

Green Up Day has a big impact. Over the past ten years, thousands of Green Up Day volunteers in Chittenden County have picked up 400 tons of trash, 18,000 tires and 400 tons of metal.

So mark your calendars, start talking to your family, friends and neighbors and lets have a large turn out for the 40th anniversary of Green Up Day. Contact your town coordinator on the list below for more information.

Spring Fuel Deliveries

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Now that spring is here, many of our members and customers are using much less oil or kerosene for heating their homes and hot water. Some folks turn their furnaces off as soon as they possibly can; others keep them running well into May.

For our members and customers on an automatic delivery schedule, our job is to make sure that no-one runs out of oil or kerosene and that we don’t make unwanted deliveries. After all, most people don’t want a spring bill for oil they won’t be using for at least six months.

Here’s how we handle spring deliveries:

The fuel assistance season ends on April 30th. So, for our fuel assistance clients who have money in their accounts, we deliver as near to the end of April as possible, provided the deliveries are at least 100 gallons.

For our pre-buy members and customers with funds available, we’ll deliver as normal, especially since our pre-buy price ($2.49) is well below current prices.

If you use oil or kerosene to heat your home (but NOT your hot water), we won’t make any deliveries after late April, unless we speak with you to get your OK.

If you use oil or kerosene to heat your home AND provide your hot water, we’ll deliver on our regular schedule through the end of June.

If you have an outside tank, it is better to fill your tank in the spring to prevent condensation that would otherwise occur during the summer. So, we’re happy to fill outside tanks in the spring upon request.

Vermont Home and Garden Show

Monday, April 12th, 2010

The Vermont Home and Garden show is coming up April 16th – 18th and we’ll be there with information about Vermont wood pellets, special offers for our furnaces and boilers, and great prizes in our raffle. Show hours are noon – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, 10:00 – 8:00 on Saturday and 10:00 – 5:00 on Sunday.

We’re offering free bags of Vermont wood pellets – one per household – so that folks with pellet stoves can try these pellets at no risk. All we ask in return is your name, address, phone number and email address.

We’ll be showing our Olsen energy-efficient hot air furnace. We’re offering $250 off the price of this furnace for installations completed by June 30th – and Green Mountain Power customers receive and additional $500 rebate on this unit.

We’ll also have our new Napoleon pellet stove on display. This stove was highly rated by Consumer Reports and qualifies for the federal tax credit of up to $1,500!

See you at the show.
