Vermont Wood Pellet Stove & Furnace Installation & Replacement
If you want to heat with wood, choose a pellet stove! You get more heat for your dollar. Also, pellet stoves are more convenient than wood stoves and fireplaces and have much higher combustion and heating efficiencies. Pellet stoves produce very little air pollution.

Once you've decided to purchase a pellet stove, here are some things to keep in mind:
- Venting. Most pellet stoves can be direct-vented through the roof or an outside wall. Expensive chimneys are not required.
- Stove type. Freestanding stoves resemble wood stoves. Fireplace inserts fit into existing fireplaces and use the existing chimney.
- Pellet storage. Pellet stoves use hoppers holding between 35 and 130 pounds of pellets which are fed into the stove burn pot using an auger. The larger the hopper, the less often it needs filling.
- Electricity. Pellet stoves use electricity to run fans, controls and pellet feeders. Back-up power supplies are available. Without these, losing power means no heat.
- Hearth pads. Pellet stoves must be placed on hearth pads to protect wooden floors from getting too hot. Most hearth pads are made from ceramics or stone.
- Clearances. Code requirements determine clearances from windows, walls, combustible surfaces and so on. Make sure your stove installer understands both local and national code requirements.
- Pellet supply. Ask any experienced pellet stove owner and they'll tell you that top quality pellets are well worth the money. They produce less ash - which means less maintenance - and more heat. The Energy Co-op of Vermont delivers LG Granules and Vermont Wood Pellets.
