Vermont Heating Fuel Delivery

Vermonters heat their homes with heating oil (55%), natural gas (14%), propane (15%), wood (10%) and electricity (4%). And according to the U.S. Census Bureau, 75 Vermont homes are heated with efficient Vermont solar energy! Many Vermonters use more than one fuel, burning more cordwood and wood pellets, for example, when oil or propane prices rise.

Heating Fuel Prices and Savings With the Energy Co-Op of Vermont

The Vermont Department of Public Service issues a monthly report on VT heating fuel prices. The report compares prices for the most commonly used Vermont heating fuels: oil, kerosene, propane, natural gas, cordwood, wood pellets, coal and electricity. The Energy Co-op of Vermont’s heating oil prices are usually below Vermont averages.

Using less heating fuel is the best way for Vermonters to protect themselves against rising energy prices. There is some good news here: we could achieve cost-effective energy savings of $486 million for homes and businesses heated with oil, kerosene, propane and wood over a ten year period for an investment of $149 million. The best opportunities are in building shell improvements (adding insulation and sealing leaks) and replacement of old heating equipment.

Dozens of local businesses and Vermont’s Weatherization Offices are busy doing this work, saving homeowners up to 30% on their Vermont energy bills and making their homes more comfortable.
