Job Description:  General Manager - Energy Co-op of Vermont

The General Manager provides organizational leadership of the Energy Co-op of Vermont, establishing and attaining business objectives and managing staff. 

Key Functions:

  • Works with the Co-op's Board as a liaison between governance and business operations
  • Leads business development efforts.
  • Leads financial planning and management.
  • Leads and coordinates marketing.
  • Leads and manages staff.
  • Maintains professional knowledge and external contacts.

Key Tasks:

Organizational Governance and Planning
  • Work with the Board to create and update the Co-op's strategic plan.
  • Align the organization to implement annual and strategic plans.
  • Provide accurate and timely information to the Board of Directors.
  • Provide support to Board members, especially the Chair, as requested.
  • Assist with the recruitment of new Board members.
Business Development
  • Develop realistic and effective business plans to guide the Co-op's growth, including developing business cases for new ventures.
  • Monitor and analyze performance of new businesses.
  • Research and cultivate new revenue sources, including grant income
Financial Management
  • Prepare accurate, scenario-based annual budgets and plans.
  • Set annual targets for revenues, gross margins and net income.
  • Follow a disciplined strategy for futures purchases and risk management.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with the Co-op's lenders and key vendors.
  • Design price protection plans and pricing strategy.
Marketing
  • Design marketing strategy for membership acquisition and retention. 
  • Oversee design and execution of annual marketing plans. 
  • Manage creation of outreach and marketing materials. 
Staff Management
  • Set clear goals for Co-op staff and create an attractive, fair and respectful work environment with opportunities for all employees to be successful in their work. 
  • Supervise Dispatch, Service, Efficiency, Marketing and Office Managers. 
Maintain Professional Knowledge and Contacts
  • Attend trade shows and conferences 
  • Build the Co-op's business network .
