Vermont Energy Tax Credits & Incentives
Here's the good news. There are many tax credits, incentives and rebates now available to help pay for energy-efficiency improvements and renewable energy installations. They include both state and federal programs.
Here's the not-so-good news. Some programs are still under development and eligibility and conditions may not be available; other programs change from time to time as funds are exhausted or reauthorized. Things get complicated.
Here are some good places to start your research.
New Heating Equipment
Efficiency Vermont offers $500 rebates for replacing old furnaces and boilers with new efficient units, such as those made by Trio and Thermopride. More information is available from Efficiency Vermont or from Joe Cobb, our service manager, at (802) 860-4090 or submit a service request. Efficiency Vermont also provides $600 - $800 rebates for cold-climate heat pumps and heat pump water heaters. These rebates are built into our heat pump prices.
Home Energy Improvements
Efficiency Vermont offers up to $2,500 in incentives to help Vermonters pay for specific energy improvements completed by a Home Performance with Energy Star contractor. Incentives include a $100 energy audit rebate, up to $500 for reduced air leakage and up to $0.40 per square foot for additional insulation.
Vermont Small Scale Renewable Energy Incentive Program (SSREIP)
Check in at the Renewable Energy Resource Center for updated information. Incetives are currently available for pellet furnaces and boilers ($2,000 cash back) and solar hot water heaters ($950 cash back).
Federal Tax Credits
30% of the cost of wind, solar hot water and solar electric systems that meet federal requirements.
